Format Write Protected USB Flash Drive


If you  have a USB Flash Drive and it give a message ‘The disk is write protected’  when you want to format it....

 So  don’t worry there’s nothing to worry about, today I  will tell you how you can format write protected USB Flash Drives in  easy Steps.
1. Click on Start
2.Write regedit.exe in Run and press Enter
3. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Currentcontrolset\control\
4. And now Search for StorageDevicePolicies, double click the key WriteProtect in the right panel of Regedit.exe and set the value from 1 to 0 In the Value Data Box and save settings.

5. Exit Regedit.exe panel and reboot your system

In Nutshell! If You couldn’t find StorageDevicePolicies? Here is a little extra thing you can do.

We will try to create a new key;
1. Right-Click the Control folder to reveal a new option, Click KEY
2. Rename folder to StorageDevicePolicies

3. Right-Click the folder and choose New > DWORD
4. Rename the folder to WriteProtect and set its value to 0

Close Regedit.exe panel and reboot your system

If you followed the all steps successfully , now you can format the write protected USB without getting any problem

If you still facing the same problem then You can try this  utility

                Formatter(size : 121 Kb)


1) Download the Utility from the above Link

2) Extract it through win rar

3) Insert your USB and click on the formatter , you will get this message as shown in the figure

4) Click on Format



 5) The formatter  will start formatting the USB disk



6) safely remove Your USB/ pendrive and insert it back and format it in the normal way
